A family where hairdressing and the art of styling is in the blood-this powerhouse trio, Andrea Hall, Ashleigh Jende and Sarah Hall, owners of Glen Waverley’s iconic Martin Hall have now launched the third business in the salon network- Cropped.

For Andrea, the matriarch of the talented team, “I have wanted to be involved in hair ever since I was very young. I started at fifteen as an apprentice, and I am still working in the industry at fifty-five and loving every minute”. For Ashleigh, the attraction to the industry also began very early, “After watching Mum for years, I decided to pursue a career in hairdressing as it was fun and creative.” For Sarah- the business slice of the creative pie- “I always wanted to do something with fashion as I also grew up in the salon with mum, but found that I love the behind the scenes as well. I did a bachelor of business and then did my apprenticeship so I knew exactly what was involved in running the salon- I get the best of both worlds”.

Four years ago, the team were introduced to the Paul Mitchell brand through a network colleague. “We really found the vibe at Paul Mitchell was like ours; the love for education and new trends really flows through the company and that is something we connected with.”

When asked what they think they offer their clients that makes them come back, the team shared- “We think they like the family vibe and the professionalism we always strive to maintain. We always keep up to date with what is happening in the fashion world, but keep it wearable and easy for the clients. We love to have a laugh as well so that might be a bonus!”

We asked the team what advice would they give those starting out in the industry to succeed? For Ashleigh, “you must be passionate; if you are not passionate, it comes through in your attitude and your work”. For Andrea, “Work on your business, not just in it. Train your staff to work like you and then you can ensure the whole salon is running efficiently.” For Sarah; “Keep training, the minute you stop learning you find yourself behind in trends and it shows in your work.”
